Description of culture system |
Fish are usually stripped by hand, and milt from two or three males are used to fertilized eggs from two to three females. These are then raised in standard tray incubators or Heath stacks, usually at around 4°C or lower and hatches in 4 months. The newly hatched are kept in dim light in incubation units with a substrate. |

Description of Nutrient input |
Feeding begins when about two-thirds of the yolk is exhausted. As the fish grow, progressively larger particles of feed are used, and the fish are transferred to larger tanks of raceways when they are 4-5 cm long and weigh 1-2 grams. Diet formulation used is 45% protein and 18% lipid. |
