Collected in Turkey along the upper infralittoral zone with dense rocky substrates, 1.5 - 2 m, associated with tapeweed Posidonia oceanica; salinity 39.2 ppt, 26.9°C, dissolved oxygen 5.52 mg/L. Previous studies observed juvenile specimens are generally associated with echinoderms, less with P. oceanica meadows, while larger ones prefer empty mussels and stones covered with calcerous algae, also near P. oceanica and C. nodosa beds. This species is sympatric with the seagrass clingfish Opeatogenys gracilis, and can be found at depths (0.2 - rarely below 20 m) where sea urchins (e.g. P. lividus, Arbacia lixula and Sphaerechinus granularis are found. Apparently, abundance of this species decreases with increasing distance from seagrass beds (Ref. 58036). |
