Remarks Occurs in the rapids, in creeks with sandy or rocky bottoms. Feeds on detritus. Mud-eaters (soft substrate feeders on minute organisms) (Ref. 40396). Microphagous herbivore; scoops up soft substrate and grazes on epiphyton; territorial behavior defending the vicinity of submerged plants with epiphytes (Ref. 40393).
