Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia and Oceania: Irian Jaya in Indonesia (Mamberamo river system) and Papua New Guinea (Ramu and Sepik river systems).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 1-1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-7; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 17-19
Biology:  Prefers lakes, but also occurs in the main river channels. Enters floodplains occasionally. Occurs at temperatures ranging from 26 to 32°C. Mainly diurnal. Feeds on large crustaceans such as Macrobrachium, large insects and nymphs, fishes (usually Ophieleotris aporos), leeches, earthworms, plants and detritus.
