Family:  Tetraodontidae (Puffers), subfamily: Canthigasterinae
Max. size:  9 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 1 - 40 m
Distribution:  Indian Ocean: Mauritius, Comoros, Maldives, and Seychelles. Replaced in the western Pacific by the closely related Canthigaster leoparda Lubbock & Allen 1979.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits clear lagoon and seaward reefs. Secretive, often in holes or under ledges. Feeds on a variety of algae, sponges and invertebrates (Ref. 9710).
