Family:  Clariidae (Airbreathing catfishes)
Max. size:  175 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; depth range 10 - 130 m
Distribution:  Africa: endemic to Lake Tanganyika and widely distributed (Ref. 36901, 78218).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  More common in rocky areas; wide depth range from about 10 m to at least 130 m (Ref. 4967). Found in the littoral zone at an average depth of 10 m, above all over rocky substrates (Ref. 36901). Larger specimens feed exclusively on fishes; exhibits cuckoo behaviour (Ref. 78218).
