Family:  Characidae (Characins; tetras), subfamily: Stethaprioninae
Max. size:  7.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic; freshwater; pH range: 6 - 8; dH range: 5 - 19
Distribution:  South America: Paraguay and Guaporé River basins to Argentina (Ref. 9086).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in the middle and upper water layers. Feeds on worms, small crustaceans and insects (Ref. 7020). Aquarium keeping: in groups of 5 or more individuals; minimum aquarium size 60 cm (Ref. 51150).
