Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 20 - 86 m
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific: USA.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 9-10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-15; Anal soft rays: 8-12; Vertebrae: 31-36. This species is distinct from its congeners by the following characters: dorsal scale band from under the 4th-7th dorsal-fin spine to under penultimate or last dorsal-fin ray, not reaching onto caudal peduncle; naked axilla of pectorals; cirri on dorsal-fin spines absent; one common opening of the anterior terminal mandibular pore; no nasal cirri; no elongated dorsal-fin spines; absence of parietal spines (Ref. 75898).
