Report from the Inkisi (lower Congo River basin) based on a misidentification (Ref. 88779). Report from Eala (Ruki drainage in Democratic Republic of the Congo)(Ref. 41591) needs confirmation. |
Dorsal spines (total): 1-1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-13; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Diagnosis: mouth inferior; lips rather strongly developed, lower lip with a round mental lobe; two pairs of well-developed barbels, anterior pair a little shorter than the posterior pair, which are as long as, or longer than, eye diameter; lower jaw reaching to, or beyond, anterior margin of eye; last simple ray of dorsal fin strong and ossified, measuring 0.6-0.75x HL; no black stripes on caudal fin (Ref. 81639).
Description: large species; scales with striae parallel or convergent posteriorly; scale formula: 4.5-5/24-29/4-4.5/2-2.5/12; D: III-IV, 9-(10); A: III, 5; lateral line complete; dorsal fin deeply notched (Ref. 81639).
Coloration: ground color olive-brown dorsally, whitish ventrally; dorsal scales with dark basal spot; fins grey, dorsal and anal fins sometimes tinted red basally (Ref. 81639). |
