Diagnosis: |
Dorsal spines (total): 10-10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 16-16; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 7-7. Red with orange bands along the back. Two dark areas on caudal peduncle that show as black spots underwater (Ref. 48635).
Description: Characterized by having alternating, narrow, longitudinal bands of orange and pale yellow anteriorly, shading to broad zone of magenta posteriorly; upper and lower base of caudal fin with large deep magenta blotch, followed in each fin lobe by yellow blotch; greatest depth of body 3.7-4.0 in SL; deeply lunate caudal fin; pectoral fins 3.5-3.7 in SL; pelvic fins 4.6-4.9 in SL (Ref. 90102). |
Biology: |
Collected from steep outer reef areas. Forms aggregations with individuals of L. waitei. Inhabits steep outer reefs in 20-40 m (Ref 90102). |
