Max. size:  11.22 cm (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 1 - 5 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: eastern coast of Australia (southern QLD to NS W); New Caledonia, Lord Howe Island, and Norfolk Island.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 15-17; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 13-14. This species is distinguished by the following: fifth body stripe relatively straight, without an inflection; no spots and short dashes on the breast and lower body (Ref. 123714).
Biology:  Juveniles and young adults are often seen in rock pools and rocky shores to 5 meters. Adults are more commonly seen near rocky reefs, but are also common in harbours, embankments, and under piers, where they occur in large groups (Ref. 123714).
