Dorsal spines (total): 10-10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 17-18; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 7-7. Description: Characterized by male having yellow upper portion of head and body, lavender pink below and caudal fin yellow with magenta upper and lower margins; female similar but with broader yellow zone dorsally; greatest depth of body 2.9-3.1 in SL; thickened and pointed front of upper lip of male; prolonged second dorsal spine of adult; lunate caudal fin with filamentous tips (Ref. 90102). |
Occurs in large aggregations, few males and several dozen females and juveniles (Ref. 37816). |
