Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Pseudocrenilabrinae
Max. size:  8.55 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; depth range 12 - 15 m
Distribution:  Africa: endemic to Lake Tanganyika, between the Ubwari Peninsula and the Kavalla Islands, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ref. 28629, 46829).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 20-20; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-10; Anal spines: 5-6; Anal soft rays: 7-7; Vertebrae: 34-34
Biology:  Present in the rocky habitats (Ref. 46829) at a depth of 12-15 m (Ref. 28629). Most often found solitary; feeds on invertebrates, seen more often outside caves of the rocky substrate than N. buescheri (Ref. 46829).
