Family:  Macrouridae (Grenadiers or rattails)
Max. size:  38 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 320 - 620 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Southeast Atlantic: Angola to Namibia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 2-2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 184-185; Anal spines: 0-0. Snout short, acute, ventral surface in front of premaxillary symphysis naked, otherwise head surfaces completely scale-covered (Ref. 1371). Spinules on scales moderately slender, lanceolate (Ref. 1371). Overall color is grayish brown; trunk dark, violet tinged, grading to medium brown posteriorly; fins pale to blackish; first dorsal fin black on distal half; mouth blackish, gill cavity mostly black (Ref. 1371).
