Family:  Paralepididae (Barracudinas)
Max. size:  38 cm SL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 84.3 g
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 0 - 2000 m
Distribution:  Probably circumglobal in Antarctic pelagic waters.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs vertically from surface (holotype) to more than 2, 000 m. Appears to feed exclusively on krill as no other prey items were found in the stomachs.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 12 October 2018 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
