Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-14; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 7-8. Medium-sized fish of moderately deep, compressed body. Predorsal scales very large, beginning between the nostrils. Preoperculum with coarse distant serrations, and scales extending on to flange. Color is silvery, darker above; fins yellowish-brown. Young individuals with a large dusky steel-blue blotch on the operculum. |
Found in coastal waters and trawling grounds. Caught with bottom trawls, bottom longlines, handlines, gillnets and traps. |
