Environment:  pelagic; freshwater; pH range: 6.80000019073486 - 7.19999980926514; dH range: 5 - 15
Distribution:  Central America: Rio Grijalva system to the lower Rio Usumacinta basin in Chiapas, Mexico.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits rapidly flowing, preferably torrential waters. Usually found in shallow waters about 20 to 50 cm deep. Feeds on insects. Lives along with livebearing Xiphophorus alvarezi only in the Rio Palenque.
