Distribution:  South America: Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 4-4; Anal soft rays: 7-8; Vertebrae: 35-35. This species can be distinguished from its congeners by having the 2nd hypobranchial and 3rd basibranchial cartilaginous (vs. ossified) (Ref. 120442).
Biology:  Inhabits small and slow flowing streams and rivers running over sand or muddy bottom, with moderate and submerged vegetation (Ref. 120442).
