Dorsal spines (total): 14-14; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 9-9; Vertebrae: 27-28. It is distinguished from all congeners by the presence of a characteristically robust and strongly recurved oral dentition (Ref. 57663). An extremely deep-bodied and robust species, rather less laterally compressed than other members of the genus (Ref. 57663). Coloration in life: body dark golden-green dorsal of midline, and bright, iridescent golden below; no distinctive lateral markings; unpaired fins dusky charcoal gray, membranes grayish to hyaline, pelvic fins hyaline proximal to base, blackish distally, and pectoral fins bright yellowish-orange (Ref. 57663). Ground coloration in preservative is dark brownish-green |
