Family:  Heterenchelyidae (Mud eels)
Max. size:  41.9 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range - 37 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: off Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Suriname.
Diagnosis:  Body nearly cylindrical; anus situated forward of mid-body; eye extremely small, embedded, merely a tiny dot, equidistant between tip of snout and corner of mouth; anterior nostril near tip of snout, posterior nostril immediately in front of eye (Ref. 13608).
Biology:  A benthic species found on reefs or rocky areas (Ref. 26340).

Threat to humans:  harmless
