Dorsal spines (total): 2-2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-7; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 5-5. Preserved color yellowish brown with silvery sheen, darker dorsally; scales margined by brown lines or dots. 12-13 scales between nape and dorsal. Lateral line complete reaching caudal; 9 (rarely 8) scale rows between lateral lines over middle of caudal peduncle. Origin of dorsal between tip of snout and caudal; least depth of caudal peduncle 1.9 - 2 in its length. Maxillary not reaching eye. Thin lips, upper moderately protractile; lower sometimes with external projecting knob at symphysis, fitting the notch on upper one. |
Occurs mainly in rivers and enters flooded fields (Ref. 12975). Feeds on algae (Ref. 12975). |
