Family:  Danionidae (Danios), subfamily: Rasborinae
Max. size:  17 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: Malaysia, Indonesia and the lower Mekong basin.
Diagnosis:  Has 11-12 predorsal scale rows; scale margins highlighted by reticulated melanin pattern; caudal fin red with black tips of caudal lobes (Ref. 12693).
Biology:  Inhabits forest creeks, usually over sandy substrate (Ref. 56749). Occurs near the surface of streams. Not a common species, with apparently localized populations. Feeds mainly on exogenous insects. Rarely seen in markets, but common in the aquarium trade (Ref. 12693).
