Family:  Callionymidae (Dragonets)
Max. size:  19 cm TL (male/unsexed); 20 cm TL (female); max.weight: 40.2 g; max.weight: 52.4 g
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 30 - 80 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Hakodate, Hokkaido to the East China Sea. More recently reported from Malaysia (Ref. 5756) and the Chesterfield Islands (Ref. 11897).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 4-4; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 9-9. Infraorbital canal with no short downward branch at anterior part.. Preopercular spine straight, with an antrorse process at base, 2 to 9 very short upward process on inner side. Second dorsal fin with many small dark spots. Lower margin of anal fin black. Attains 18 cm SL.
Biology:  Produces an offensive odor upon capture (Ref. 559).
