Family:  Batrachoididae (Toadfishes), subfamily: Halophryninae
Max. size:  29 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine
Distribution:  Southeast Atlantic and western Indian Ocean: known only from South Africa, from Durban to Port St. Johns, Transkei.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 3-3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 19-20; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 15-17. Preserved specimens dark brown and mottled with lighter brown; smaller specimens with irregular cross bars (Ref. 4107).
