Family:  Sparidae (Porgies)
Max. size:  38 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic-neritic; marine; depth range 20 - 160 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean and Southeast Atlantic: known only from Natal to Cape Town in South Africa.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-13; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 11-12. Body rosy, olive or bluish dorsally, silvery below; black blotch in axil of pectorals (Ref. 6640).
Biology:  Found inshore during bad weather.
