Family:  Paralepididae (Barracudinas)
Max. size:  15 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 18 - 330 m
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific. Eastern Pacific: Point Conception, California to Chile (Ref. 35950).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-9; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 33-38; Vertebrae: 85-97. Branchiostegal rays: 8.
Biology:  Epipelagic to mesopelagic in tropical waters (Ref. 4056, 58302). Known only from juvenile specimens, probably attains 25 cm (Ref. 4056). Oviparous, with planktonic larvae (Ref. 35950).
