Family:  Mochokidae (Squeakers or upside-down catfishes), subfamily: Mochokinae
Max. size:  56 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: endemic to Lake Tanganyika, fairly common (Ref. 59365) and distributed throughout the lake (Ref. 78218).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-8; Anal soft rays: 8-8
Biology:  Found in littoral to benthic zones over shell (Ref. 59365), sand and mud bottoms (Ref. 4967, 59365). Has been captured from depths of 120-140 m (Ref. 27623). Diet consists of gastropods, lamellibranchs, insect larvae, ostracods and shrimps (Ref. 36901). Oviparous (Ref. 205).
