Family:  Synodontidae (Lizardfishes), subfamily: Synodontinae
Max. size:  26 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; brackish; marine; depth range 60 - 96 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: Red Sea and Mozambique (Ref. 11228) to the Andaman Sea and southern Japan, south to Arafura Sea and New Caledonia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-14; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 8-10. Body with alternating pale and dark saddle blotches above; black blotch at upper edge of operculum; fins pale (Ref. 11228).
Biology:  Found on sandy or mud bottoms (Ref. 11228). Sold fresh in markets.
