背面の脊椎 (合計) : 2; 背鰭 (合計) : 8 - 9; 肛門の骨: 3; 臀鰭: 12 - 14. Specimens dusky above, pale or pale-yellowish sides and belly; opercle and preopercle silvery; scales outlined by dark dots. Head naked; mouth large, oblique; upper thin lip slightly protractile with a median notch into which fits a small knob on tip of lower lip. Pectoral pointed, tip extending beyond origin of small ventrals; caudal slightly longer than head with the lower lobe larger. Belly with a sharp, cutting edge. Barbels shorter than head; number of anal fin rays smaller than N. everetti and N. steindachneri. 22-23 scales from nape to dorsal.
