Western Central Atlantic: Venezuela to Brazil. Rhode Island to Florida (USA), Gulf of Mexico. Pacific Ocean. (Ref. 26938). A recognized subspecies Hyporhamphus roberti hildebrandi occurs in Belize and Colombia.
