Definition of Term

Columnaris disease
(English) An acute systemic and cutaneous disease of freshwater fishes caused by Flexibacter columnaris. The disease is widespread and occurs most frequently during the summer in young-of-the-year fish. Losses are usually quite high. In warm water fish, there is frequently a dual infection with Aeromonas liquefaciens. The disease is effectively controlled by systemic and external antibacterials.
