Definition of Term

exophthalmia
(English) A condition in which the eyeballs begin to protrude from the head (usually seen in fish) as a result of the accumulation of fluid or gases at the back of the eye socket. Exophthalmia ("popeye") is a symptom of gas-bubble disease and may be caused by certain other afflictions.
