Definition of Term

terminal-phase male
(English) A distinctive color phase in large males of certain fishes, such as wrasses and parrotfishes, in which a distinctive color pattern is assumed, usually in association with a shift to pair spawning. Terminal-phase males may be transformed, already sexually mature males, or transformed females. (See also: supermale, Wrasses, Parrotfishes)
