Definition of Term

gular plate
(English) A ventral bony plate that lies between the two lower jaws in some primitive bony fishes (e.g. the Elopidae); a large bony plate in the anterior third of the space between the lower jaws, in the bowfin. (See also: ventral, jaws, bony fishes)
