Definition of Term

recruitment overfishing
(English) The rate of fishing above which the recruitment to the exploitable stock becomes significantly reduced. This is characterized by a greatly reduced spawning stock, a decreasing proportion of older fish in the catch, and generally very low recruitment year after year. May lead to stock collapse if prolonged and combined with poor environmental conditions. (See also: fishing mortality, growth overfishing, spawning stock)

Caractérisé par un stock reproducteur considérablement réduit, une proportion décroissante des poissons les plus vieux dans la prise, et un recrutement annuel généralement très faible. (Portuguese) A taxa acima da qual o recrutamento ao stock explorável se torna significativamente reduzido. É caracterizado pela grande redução do stock reprodutor, a diminuição da captura de indivíduos grandes (com mais idade) e geralmente um recrutamento decrescente ano após ano.
