Diagnosis: depth of body contained 2.66-3.25 times in standard length, length of head 4.66-5 times (Ref. 4903). Snout short (Ref. 28714), 20-25% length of head (Ref. 4903), deeply rounded and projecting beyond the mouth, which is situated below the nostrils (Ref. 4903, 28714). Mouth inferior; chin not developed, without swelling (Ref. 28714). Teeth notched in young fishes but worn and truncated in adults (Ref. 4903). 3-10 teeth in the middle of each jaw (Ref. 4903, 28714). Dorsal fin between one half and twice the anal fin length (Ref. 28714). Dorsal fin with 34-36 rays; anal fin with 24-36, its origin below the middle of the dorsal; lateral line with 55-65 scales; 12 around the caudal peduncle, which is 2.5-3 times longer than deep (Ref. 4903). Coloration: dark brown above, silvery-white below (Ref. 4903). |
