Remarks Exhibits sexual dimorphism in the development of some of the anterior soft rays in the dorsal fin. A female measuring 24.4 cm SL has anterior dorsal soft rays much less elongated (second >27% SL, third >32.7% SL vs. third 56.8% SL, fourth ca. 62% SL in a male measuring 30.1 cm SL).

Diagnosis

Differs from all other congeners by its lips mostly covered with very small scales, upper lip lacking rugosities, lower lip with rugosities along dorsal part; and maxilla almost squared off poteriorly where dorsal and posterior boarders of maxilla forming a right angle (Ref. 78426).
