Diagnosis

Diagnosis: 40-43 lateral line scales; 8 scales between lateral line and dorsal-fin origin; lateral surface of snout and often also regions ventral and posteroventral or orbit with highly elaborate laterosensory canal system formed of multiple intersecting segments; region posterodorsal and posterior of orbit without elaborate laterosensory canal system or with limited system immediately posterior of orbit (Ref. 81638).

Description: body moderately elongate, depth 0.22-0.25x SL, more robust anteriorly; head profile moderately acute anteriorly; premaxilla with 3 rows of bicuspid teeth and 13 teeth in outer series; maxilla with teeth along anterodorsal margin; dentary with several rows of sometimes intermingled bicuspid and conical teeth; laterosensory canal system of head elaborated with series of intersecting canal segments on lateral surface of head anterior, ventral and posteroventral of orbit, on snout, lower lip and ventral portion of opercle; body scales ctenoid and of moderate size; lateral line incomplete with pores on anterior 3-6 scales; scales in longitudinal series including pored scales 40-45; 12-13 scales between dorsal fin origin and mid-ventral line (excluding median scales); D: III-IV,9-12; A: II-III,8-9 (Ref. 81638).

Coloration: preserved specimens yellowish; mid-lateral surface of head with horizontal band of dark pigmentation extending from snout to rear of opercle; mid-lateral surface of body with band formed on confluent dark spots in region from posterior of supracleithrum to base of caudal fin; anterior portion of dorsal fin with dark pigmentation (Ref. 81638).
