Remarks | Voprosy Ikhtiologii v. 44 (no. 4): 437-440. [In Russian]. Abstract: The description of a new species and genus from the family Opisthoproctidae is presented: Ioichthys kashkini. Holotype (adult female SL 232 mm) was caught with midwater trawl in the Arabian Sea (841N 6408 E) at a depth of more than 700 m. Ioichthys is accepted as close to Dolichopteryx and Bathylychnops, but differs from both these genera in the absence of teeth armament at the vomer and in the smaller number of marginal rays of the caudal fin. It also differs from the first species in the more posterior position of the vent and the absence of telescopic eyes and from the second species in the absence of an accessory lens and in the smaller vertebral number. |
