Etymology: Cirrhinus: Latin, cirrus = curl fringe (Ref. 45335); rubirostris: The species name rubirostris, a Latin adjective, refers to the red color of the rostral tubercules and of the snout generally; it also refers to the Karen name for this species which means "red nosed fish.".

Inhabit rivers.
