Body with 12 dark bars on the sides, usually more prominent in males. Caudal fin margin orange with darkened submarginal band in males; tail usually has vertical series of dark streaks near the fin base rather than on the margin. Distal half of dorsal margin orange with black margin. Anal fin yellowish with black blotch (Ref. 36880).
An insectivorous fish which lives in stagnant waters and in currents of low to moderate velocity, between 20 and 100 m of elevation. Inhabits surface or midwaters of creeks and streams where temperature varies between 22-30°C (Ref. 36880).
