Ecology
Marine; demersal; depth range 45 - 495 m (Ref. 9626), usually 150 - 250 m (Ref. 9626). Subtropical; 35°N - 9°N, 98°W - 57°W
Western Atlantic: North Carolina and Florida (USA), Bermuda, Cuba, Yucatan (Mexico), Puerto Rico, Lesser Antilles, Nicaragua, Colombia, and Venezuela (Ref. 3276). Probably throughout Caribbean (Dooley, pers. comm.).

Inhabits sandy and muddy bottoms. Possibly construct burrows in the seafloor sediments (Ref. 101572). Feeds on invertebrates and small fishes (Ref. 26235). Marketed fresh and is highly appreciated as a food fish.
