Dorsal spines (total): 10 - 11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14 - 16; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 11 - 12. Body silvery bluish, dorsal side horizontal stripes thick brown and thin light blue alternating (Ref. 90102), ventral whitish. 4-5 cheek scales; 20-30 predorsal scales; supra temporal scale band confluent at dorsal midline; scaled dorsal and anal fins. Postmaxillary processes 2; posterior end of maxilla tapered. Upper peduncular scale rows usually 11 (11-12); lower peduncular scale rows usually 15 (14-17). Process on basioccipital flat for insertion of Baudelot's ligament (Ref. 1723). Head length 2.8-3.9 in SL; body depth 3.3-4.9 in SL (Ref. 90102).
Ranges widely around coral reefs. Feeds on zooplankton in midwater aggregations. Oviparous, with numerous, small pelagic eggs (Ref. 402).
