Etymology: Placidochromis: Latin, placidus = of peaceful or tranquile appearance + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335); polli: Named in honour of Dr. Max Poll, who was a well known Belgian ichthyologist; his revision of the Lake Tanganyika cichlids (Poll, 1956) is the most important taxonomic study of this fauna to date (Ref. 55898).
