Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Juveniles live in a specific inshore habitat until they reach 18 cm, thereafter it lives in the superficial pelagic zone; exclusively pelagic predator, feeding on clupeids and to a lesser extent on Luciolates; highly susceptible to intensive fishing (Ref. 2216). Oviparous (Ref. 205). Juveniles often found near river mouths, but not in the rivers (Ref. 36901). Also caught using handlines (Ref. 4967).

Life cycle and mating behavior Maturities | Reproduction | Spawnings | Egg(s) | Fecundities | Larvae

May breed in areas with plants (Ref. 205). Distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Oviparous (Ref. 205).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5006   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00977 (0.00515 - 0.01855), b=3.01 (2.84 - 3.18), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this species & Genus-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  4.4   ±0.77 se; based on food items.
Generation time: 3.2 ( na - na) years. Estimated as median ln(3)/K based on 1 growth studies.
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Medium, minimum population doubling time 1.4 - 4.4 years (tm=3-5).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Moderate vulnerability (37 of 100).
