Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps) > Smiliogastrinae
Etymology: Enteromius: Greek, enteron = intestine + Greek, myo, mys = muscle (Ref. 45335).
Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Ecology
Freshwater; benthopelagic. Tropical
Africa: only known from the upper course of Yewa River between Meka and Ilara in Nigeria (Ref. 2801). Also Ref. 2940, 81282.
Size / Weight / Age
Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 3.0 cm SL male/unsexed; (Ref. 2801)
Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 8. Diagnosis: last simple dorsal-fin ray smooth on hind margin; scale formula 3.5/22-25/4.5-5.5; 3-3.5 scales between lateral line and pelvic-fin base; 4-6 anterior scales pored; 10 scales around caudal peduncle; lateral-line scales without particular colour pattern; 8 branched dorsal fin rays; no barbels; lateral line incomplete, straight; maximum reported size 30 mm SL; small spot at end of caudal peduncle (Ref. 2940, 81282).
Affinities: superficially similar to B. salessei (complete lateral line, without barbel); B. clauseni is also related to B. sylvaticus, the latter having only 8 scales around the caudal peduncle and no pored scales in the lateral line; the distance between the type localities of these two species is only 100 km (Ref. 2940). Maximum TL was recorded at 4.2 cm (Ref. 2801).
