This species is distinguished by the following characters: precaudal vertebrae 14-16, 3 loin vertebrae (last precaudal vertebrae without ribs); first gill arch with long gill rakers 14-16; pectoral-fin rays 16-17; HL:HD 1.40-1.48; absence of head spines; opercular spine sharp and extruding; opercular flap small; vomer is narrow, naked or with few teeth; palatines narrow with 2-3 rows of teeth; basibranchial tooth patch very small with 1-2 rows of teeth; otolith with single colliculum; OL:OH = 0.95; OL:TCL = 1.87 (Ref. 125143).
