Etymology: Polydactylus: Greek, poly = a lot of + greek, daktylos = finger (Ref. 45335); siamensis: Named for its type locality Siam, the old name of Thailand (Ref. 39886).

Marine; demersal. Tropical; 18°N - 6°N, 92°E - 102°E (Ref. 57343)
Eastern Indian Ocean: known only from Bangkok, Songkhla and Phuket, Thailand. Probably more widely distributed about the Malay Peninsula.

Max length : 27.4 cm SL male/unsexed; (Ref. 39886); 25.2 cm SL (female)
Body with 7 or 8 prominent dark stripes along the scale rows above the lateral line; 7 - 9 faint stripes below (may be lost after preservation). Five pectoral filaments, moderately long, 31-43% of SL with 5th longest. Large upper jaw (mean 17% of SL) (Ref. 39886). Lateral line squamation unbranched, extending to upper end of lower caudal fin lobe. Lower tip of 7th proximal pterygiophore of 1st dorsal fin directed backward (Ref. 40970).
