Etymology: Lucigadus: Latin, lucius, Greek, lykos = wolf; pike + Latin, gadus = a fish cod?. By its predatory habits (Ref. 45335).

Issue
This species is placed in the genus Lucigadus in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. Mar. 2011: Ref. 86697). The genus Macruroplus is considered is synonym of Nezumia in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. Mar. 2011: Ref. 86697). Please send references, or more studies are needed.
