Etymology: Eptatretus: hepta (Gr.), seven; tretos (Gr.), perforated (i.e., with holes), referring to seven gill apertures on what would later be described as Homea banksii (=E. cirrhatus) [range within genus is 6-14 pairs of gill apertures] (See ETYFish); moki: In honor of Hin-kiu Mok (b. 1947), National Sun Yat-Sen University, Taiwan, for his many “outstanding” contributions to hagfish knowledge (See ETYFish).

Six pairs of gill pouches (GP) and apertures (GA); GA closely spaced (not crowded) in a nearly straight line. Fused cusps 3/2, total cusps 38-43. Prebranchial slime pores 18-21; total pores 75-82. Ventral finfold well developed with wide pale margin. Eyespots faint or absent (Ref. 51420).
